Easy, peasy, rice and cheesy

The Crafty Crow always has some fun craft ideas for kids. Last week they had whirlybirds and paper airplanes posted. And it made me think of these little whirly-gigs that are a little more age appropriate for my 5 and 3 year olds to make on their own. They are super-easy to make and the kids had fun playing with them.

You need:
plain paper
ruler
pencil
scissors
paper clips

Instructions:
On the paper draw a 6 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch rectangle. From the top of the rectangle draw a 3 inch line down the middle.

Cut out the rectangle, and cut down the center line, fold the flaps in opposite directions and put a paper clip on the bottom.

Then take them outside, run around trying to find the highest point in your backyard to drop them from and watch them twirl!

The kids had all kinds of names for these, twirly-gigs, swirly-gags, swirly-wigs, it was fun! But today we are back inside with low 50's and rain all week.

On Wednesday night the forecast is for high 30's! What am I gonna do about my garden? My thumb is not green, not even the slightest hint of green, so advice would be appreciated!
