God has been bringing me back to the basics lately, seriously back to the basics. Like the Sunday School song "Read your Bible, pray everyday, pray everyday, pray everyday...and you'll grow, grow, grow! Don't read your Bible, forget to pray..and you'll shrink, shrink, shrink."
Here is a good post (from another mom) about making excuses and what God thinks of them!
There are two things I want this post to be about. First, some things I have learned about praying for my family. And second a really cool, back to the basics, study I found.
At MOPS I got this prayer calendar for kids, with a different quality to pray into your kids each day of the month. It lists the character trait and then some verses to back it up. For example:
Honesty
Proverbs 12:22
"Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal faithfully are His delight."
So then this is how I pray for my kids to be honest:
Lord, teach (insert child's name) about lying lips. Show him/her how detestable they are to you, and cause him/her to hate them as much as you do. Help him/her delight in men who are truthful, and to be a man/woman of truth.
Then I can also pray the same scripture with my kids before bed that night, so they are learning God's word, God's character and what He expects from us, all at the same time they are learning how to pray. Isn't that fabulous!! God is so good. What an awesome way to use scripture in areas that my kids are struggling with.
And for the study, you can read more about it here.
It is called "Firm Foundations, Creation to Christ." It is written for non-Christians to gain a Biblical understanding of the history of the world, and an understanding of the basis for salvation. It is so simple, it is teaching me all the things I never learned in Sunday School! (I didn't become a Christian until I was about 18yrs old.)
